RNG
This is my entry to the GMTK Game Jam 2022.
In this game, your goal is to get as many point as possible by throwing dice into a marked area. There are different kinds if dice, wich have different costs and can be bought using money you gain by throwing dice.
It's not really that interesting gameplay wise, since I entered the jam late and spent most of my time making fancy dice throwing graphics. So even if you don't understand how to play, just throw some dice around, I tried my best to make it as satisfying as possible.
Also, please show some appreciation for screenshot nr. 3, it took me quiet some time to get the money to 69 for that shot :)
FAQ:
Is there a goal?
- No, just try to get as many points as possible.
Whats the difference between the two numbers in the top left?
- The big number on top is your score. It shows the amount of eyes that lie in the marked area. The number below shows your money. You gain money, everytime a dice lands in the marked area, the amount depends on your roll. You also loose money everytime you throw a dice.
How do I buy dice?
- You don't. Just select a type of dice and its cost will be subtracted once you throw.
What does the button on the bottom right do?
- It resets the dice, none of your progress/score/money will be saved.
The multiply/risky/compact dice have a visual glitch and just turn black?
- First of all: that's not a question. And second: Yeah, it wasn't like that in unity, but when I exported the game it did this and I didn't have time to fix it, so...
What do the different dice do?
So, I would have wanted to make more types and maybe a tooltip that explains each dice, but I simple hadn't had the time for this. Also, all of the dice use the same model and are only different in color. Here again, I simply had no time to model different dice. But here's a little chart for what they do:
- Normal:
Just a regular dice, you get the points/money of the numer of eyes you rolled.
Costs 3
- Multiply:
This dice multiplies the score by a factor of either 0.5, 1 or 2. The corresponding eyes are: 1/6: x0.5, 2/5: x1, 3/4: x2. You won't gain any money off of it and the dice also explodes because explosion be cool and epic and cool. And epic.
Costs 10
- Risky:
It's like the regular dice, but the eyes are all worth 3 more. It also costs 4 more, so theres no actual reason to buy one of these, but hey, it's a game jam, there's no time to worry about balancing.
Costs 7
- B I G
It do be B I G. Also all the eyes are worth 10x.
Costs 30
- Compact
One side is a 200 (forgot which one + can't be bothered to look it up), four sides are a 100 and the last side is a 50. The dice costs 200, so you might be asking: why even buy this, if I at best I'll just break even? BUT: if you were really sweating the game, you could actually store more dice inside the area by using these, although I highly highly doubt anyone is grinding this game to such an extend.
Costs 200

Had a lot of fun with this one. 100% will play again.
Nice game. However, I think you could give more thought to dice prices and abilities. From the lower cost dice, there is basically no point to throw anything except for 3 cost die, since it provides most points with minor risks (worst case - you lose 1-2 points. And i couldn't save enough points to through 200p dice in the 10ish minutes i have been playing.
Having a more clear understanding of what type of results can different dice produce would be great too.
Overall, nice time killer, but there is still room for an improvement.
It's a fun little system. I could see it being used in something bigger and making it quite enjoyable, or being further built on for an even more actiony experience. The mechanics of each dice and how they played into the game's goal weren't very intuitive, but it was still fun to roll the dice.
This is so fun!
